Abstract:
The paper substantiates the need for a comprehensive study of the administrative-territorial division of the Orthodox Church in Ukraine from its inception to the present in the spatial and time dimensions. The authors analyze the status and methodology of studying the problem, describe the major research methods and focus on spatial analysis, which in combination with the results of existing analytical work by the method of zoning will allow catching geoconfessional situation at a certain timeframe of the development of the Church. The paper for the first defines basic time steps of spatial changes in Church territorial division and determines the multifactorial influence of historical-geographical processes on the administrative-territorial organization of the Orthodox Church in Ukraine. The practical result of such research should be creation, with the help of cartographic methods, of historical-geographical Atlas of the Orthodox Church in Ukraine.
